You, dear readers, were loud and clear in your preferences this past year. Yes to chicken recipes and yes to babka.

Below we present our ten most-beloved recipes of 2017 featuring three chicken preparations and three babka variations along with other reader favorites such as stuffed peppers and kugel. These recipes are hearty and a little out-of-the-ordinary and are perfect to revisit on a cold winter day.

(The Nosher via JTA) -- I recently stumbled upon a Yemenite Jewish cookbook from the early ’60s called "Yemenite & Sabra Cookery," by Naomi and Shimon Tzabar. It’s the type of cookbook I especially love to discover; the kind that covers a rare topic and is unusually designed. This one has beautiful wood-block print images scattered throughout. The recipes are more like sketches of how to make something rather than being clear directives.

AMSTERDAM (JTA) — Two weeks ago, a 29-year-old man waving a Palestinian flag smashed the windows of a kosher restaurant with a wooden club, stealing an Israeli flag there. Police arrested the suspect on the spot.

WASHINGTON (JTA) — President Donald Trump commuted the sentence of Sholom Rubashkin, the chief executive of what was then the largest kosher slaughterhouse in the country, who was convicted of bank fraud and money laundering charges.

Trump cited appeals from across the political spectrum in making the move.
