Upper East Siders can now have Shabbat lunch (ahem Saturday brunch) at the Jewish Museum's cafe, the uptown branch of the Lower East Side smoked fish mongers Russ & Daughters.

The brunch/lunch is available with advance registration and payment so as to avoid financial transactions on Shabbat. Reservations can be made online for a 90-minute table slot in the museum's Maira Kalman mural-ed restaurant.  

For $50 per diner (plus $5.94 taxes and fees), your table will receive family-style servings of salmon roe-topped deviled eggs, a platter of Gaspe Nova smoked salmon, sable, whitefish and baked salmon salad, and pickled herring, assorted breads, pickles, and a green salad. There will also be wine and challah for kiddush and motzi. You will end your meal with a dessert plate of halvah ice cream, black & white cookies, and fresh fruit. While orange juice, soft drinks, coffee, and tea are included, an optional drinks add-on, providing two Bloody Maries, mimosas, glasses of wine, or beer, is an additional $26. 

The traditional Ashkenazi foods are reminiscent of the foods many of our ancestors ate for their Shabbat lunches though not likely in such a setting nor at this price point. 

Keep in mind that the museum is open and free of charge on Saturdays making a day-long Shabbat-friendly affair quite possible.
