MexiKosher, the popular kosher Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles is opening a branch in New York City. 

The small spot, which is open 11am-11pm, is located on the Upper West Side at 83rd street and Columbus Avenue. The original Los Angeles restaurant is located in the heavily Jewish Pico-Robertson area, much as the Upper West Side is home to many of New York City's Jews. 

The chef behind MexiKosher's success is Katsuji Tanabe, who grew up in Mexico City. Tanabe is somewhat of a TV chef-star, having appeared on "Top Chef," "Chopped," "Food Fighters," "Cooking Under Fire," and "Master Chef Mexico." In an interview with the Los Angeles Times Tanabe described MexiKosher as "a great little Mexican restaurant that happens to be kosher."

MexiKosher's menu allows diners to build their meal by choosing a "style" (burrito, taco, rice bowl, salad, nachos), then a type of meat, and then add toppings, including five types of salsa. Appetizers include hot wings, chicken taquitos on corn tortillas, and chimichanga beef and beans.  

MexiKosher tested the NYC waters with a popup last year when it took over Pitopia in midtown.
